Summer vacation is upon us. And if you're the parent of a teen, now is an ideal time for your child to gain some valuable work experience and earn a little extra money. Here are some great first summer jobs for teens: -
Pet-sitter/walker. Summer is the time when friends, family members, and neighbors go on vacation. If they have a pet, they may need some assistance with pet sitting or walking.
-
Camp counselor. One way to help your kids gain valuable work experience – and enjoy the outdoors – is to have them work as a camp counselor.
-
Lawnmower. If your child has access to a lawnmower or weedwhacker, they may be in business to earn money mowing lawns for neighbors on vacation or too busy to cut their own grass.
-
Babysitter. With kids home from school, many families may need help with watching young children.
- Golf caddy. If you live near a golf course, your child may be able to earn money caddying, which pays well and will have your child outdoors.
-
Lifeguard. It's a job that requires tremendous commitment and responsibility, but can pay well for teens. In order to get hired, teens must complete Red Cross lifeguard certifications.
- Tutor. Is your teen a good student? They may be able to earn money tutoring other students over the summer.
Summer is also a great time for your teen to gain volunteer hours that may be required on college applications. Your child’s school may have contacts with local organizations for potential volunteer opportunities. |
